We live in Moravská Třebová. It is not the only place where we work, in two professional worlds. One world has belonged to project management, business consulting and finance for more than 30 years. The other has spent almost 10 years building quality barbering and care for appearance and overall well-being.

handmade bears and hearts of foam roses · 2019–2022

What it was

Czech handmade production of the bears and hearts of foam roses that became popular worldwide. As the only genuinely Czech maker on the domestic market, Medvídkárna also made its own moulds — the figure the roses are glued onto. Small batches let it compete on Czech quality with imports and with makers who only claimed to be Czech.

When and where

From the autumn of 2019. Workshop and pickup point in Moravská Třebová, sales mainly through its own e-shop; the site ran until 2022.

What was made

Rose bears in 18, 25, 30, 35 and 55 cm, bears with a heart, and separate rose hearts of 20 and 30 cm. All glued by hand from foam roses and packed in a gift box.

The intent

Not to play at expensive luxury for the few, but to bring joy at a fair price. More than two thousand pieces sold in a short time on the market.

Covid

During the restrictions the shop could not sell and only the pickup point for e-shop orders remained. The workshop then added respirators — including children's ones with rainbows, butterflies and hearts — and antigen tests.

import and sale of rare tropical plants · 2022–2025

What it was

Import and sale of rare house plants, mainly aroids of the Araceae family. Monstera aurea, Monstera adansonii variegata, obliqua and karstenianum, Epipremnum pinnatum marble, Scindapsus jade satin, zamioculcas, philodendrons, rhaphidophora, syngonium and heliconia.

How it is done

Importing plants from third countries is not just an order. The company had to be registered as an importer with the Czech plant inspection authority ÚKZÚZ, obtain an EORI number and a registration in the European TRACES NT system. Every shipment travels with a phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin and passes customs clearance and an import plant health inspection.

Where the plants came from

From Indonesia, from a grower in Bogor on Java. Shipments flew from 2022 to 2024; a single ten-kilo box once held a hundred and fifty-nine plants.

The e-shop

Besides the plants themselves, everything that goes with them: supports, sphagnum moss poles in two sizes and heat packs, so the parcel survived a winter journey to the customer.

How it ended

The project wound up in the spring of 2025. The rareplants.cz domain was removed from DNS on 22 May 2025.
